History
American was founded more than 95 years ago and has a deep-rooted history leading the industry through innovation and firsts, including hiring the first Black U.S. commercial airline pilot, hiring the first female U.S. commercial airline pilot, launching the first loyalty program of any major carrier and becoming the first airline to introduce airport lounges. In 2016, American Airlines Group Inc. topped Fortune magazine’s list of best business turnarounds, and its stock (NASDAQ: AAL) joined the S&P 500 index.

Our path to net zero
As the first airline to receive validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its intermediate carbon emissions reduction goal, American is actively incorporating sustainability at every level of the business. American operates the youngest, simplest, most efficient fleet among U.S. network carriers and is an industry leader in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) consumption.

Launched in 1999 by founding members American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways and Qantas Airways, the oneworld® Alliance has grown to be one of the world’s leading airline alliances. With 13 member airlines and growing, oneworld® member airlines operate more than 4 million flights annually to more than 900 destinations in 170 territories globally.
The oneworld® member airlines work together to deliver a superior, seamless travel experience, with special benefits and rewards for frequent flyers, including earning and redeeming miles and points across the entire alliance network.

Regional carriers
Regional flying is essential to our global network. American’s regional operation fuels our hubs with safe, reliable and convenient service from small- and medium-size communities and provides the right equipment to meet customer demand. The American Eagle network of 6 regional carriers operates under a codeshare and service agreement with American, serving destinations across the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico.

Envoy
Envoy Air Inc. operates more than 160 aircraft on 800 daily flights to more than 160 destinations. The company’s 18,600 employees provide regional flight and ground handling services to American under the American Eagle brand. The company was founded in 1998 as American Eagle Airlines Inc., following the merger of several smaller regional carriers to create one of the largest regional airlines in the world.
Envoy is headquartered in Irving, Texas, with hubs in Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth and Miami, as well as a large ground handling operation in Los Angeles.

Piedmont
Piedmont Airlines, Inc. provides service both on the ground and in the air across the United States. Every day, more than 10,000 aviation professionals foster a mission of caring, compliance and communication on and off the airfield.
Piedmont is headquartered in Salisbury, Maryland, and operates a fleet of Embraer 145 regional jets. Piedmont’s ground handling team can be found in more than 80 airports across the U.S., providing ground services for American Airlines customers.

PSA
PSA Airlines Inc. operates nearly 130 aircraft with an average of 600 daily departures to more than 95 domestic and international destinations. The company’s nearly 4,500 employees provide regional air service to American from stations around the U.S.
PSA is headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, with flight crew bases in Charlotte, Dallas-Fort Worth, Dayton, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
PSA has maintenance facilities in Dayton, Canton and Cincinnati, Ohio; Charlotte, North Carolina; Greenville, South Carolina; Norfolk, Virginia; Pensacola, Florida; and Savannah, Georgia.

Robert L. Crandall Campus
Named for American’s retired Chairman and CEO, the 300-acre Robert L. Crandall Campus in Fort Worth, Texas, is home to the airline’s headquarters and is designed to support American’s global operations and team members. The campus can support up to 12,000 team members on site each day and connects 8 buildings:

- Skyview 3, Flight Academy, Flight Administration, Simulators, Classroom

The American Airlines Federal Credit Union’s headquarters and the American Airlines CR Smith Museum are conveniently located adjacent to the campus.
The Robert W. Baker Integrated Operations Center
The Robert W. Baker Integrated Operations Center (IOC) is the central communications center for American Airlines. The 149,000-square-foot facility opened in 2015 and houses more than 1,600 team members who oversee and coordinate American’s global operation.
Hospitality Complex
When the American Airlines Stewardess College first opened in 1957, it was the airline industry’s first specially designed training facility for flight attendants. American’s new Hospitality Complex, known as Skyview 6, opened in January 2023, providing team members with a convenient place to lodge, eat, socialize and work out when visiting the Robert L. Crandall Campus for training. Located at the heart of the campus, the new facility includes 600 hotel rooms for visiting team members, several dining options, a 10,000-square-foot ballroom to host company events, a 73,500-square-foot fitness center and outdoor sport courts.
American Airlines CR Smith Museum
The history of American and the air transportation industry is on display at the CR Smith Museum for team members, retirees and the public to experience through interactive, hands-on displays. The museum collects artifacts and archival materials that are seen by tens of thousands of visitors per year.
DFW Flight Academy and Charlotte Training Center
The DFW Flight Academy and Charlotte (CLT) Training Centers provide training activities for more than 1,000 American and American Eagle (Envoy, PSA and Piedmont) pilots each month. Each year, American’s pilots operate millions of challenging flight training miles, testing on thousands of emergency scenarios and malfunctions to ensure safety and preparedness.
The DFW Flight Academy, which is a part of the Robert L. Crandall Campus, houses 30 mainline full-flight simulators. The CLT Training Center has 13 simulator bays, with 4 mainline full flight simulators and 8 wholly owned American Eagle full flight simulators.
Tulsa Maintenance Base
American’s Base Maintenance facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is one of the largest and most comprehensive aviation maintenance facilities in the world. With more than 4,600 team members, the majority of whom are licensed aircraft and jet engine mechanics, it’s also one of the largest private employers in Oklahoma.
